More News for Kimsoun

Having met Kimsoun and hearing of her aspirations to become a Professor of English Literature we set about trying to see how we could help her along the path to begin this amazing adventure. Given that international transfer fees and exchange rates are prohibitively exorbitant, an opportunity came about through Bernard Reedy and Dianne Denham, who were both visiting Siem Reap under the guidance of our team members, Phanit and Neat. We organised for a meeting to take place with Kimsoun, in which Bernard and Di would act as direct intermediaries for MaDE. Bernard and Di were not only happy to do this, they also became co-contributors to Kimsoun’s education.

The next step was organising the transfer of funds, through a local bank, to pay for Kimsoun to receive three months of a university-led English course which would help set her up for the beginning of her English Literature Degree.

We recently received the wonderful news that Kimsoun has achieved a remarkable 80/100 in her first exam. This is an incredible feat considering she works full-time and is on the hunt for more part-time work, which she uses to supplement the cost of her younger siblings’ education. At the end of February we will have to go through these steps once again as we continue to support Kimsoun to access every opportunity in what is shaping up to be an incredible educational and life journey.
