Vorn Neat’s Story

We first met Vorn Neat (Neat) in May of 2015. This was during our first exercise supporting Koksampouer primary school. Neat was the first to receive a scholarship from MaDE.

Neat was trying to complete her internship as part of her IT Bachelor Degree. She had to stop paid work to complete this requirement. Thus Neat had no income and could not afford her last year of uni fees. She was receiving a US$0.50 late fee for everyday that she couldn’t pay her fees.

Neat and her partner, Phanit, were reduced to a US$70.00 a month income. Their rent was US$50.00.

Upon getting home it was mentioned why didn’t I pay for Neat’s fees while I was over in Siem Reap? I was so overwhelmed by the entire exercise that I failed to take the initiative and secure Neat her future with a one off payment for her final year of uni.

However we pursued this as an option and after much learning about international monetary transfers and some help from ‘Jake’ of ‘One Step One Life’, we managed to secure Neat a US$460.00 payment of her final year of university, allowing her to complete and receive her Bachelor of IT (Web site designing).

Neat now runs her own cleaning business. She still works on web site designing and is a partner in an online retail operation. Her entrepreneurial spirit is admirable and her and Phanit have become our friends and our team representatives in Siem Reap. We are proud to be associated with Neat and applaud her continued success.
